Uncontrolled lightning-sparked wildfires from Santa Cruz to Sonoma account for half a million acres burned and seventy-seven thousand residents evacuated, with parts of Big Basin Redwoods State Park and Point Reyes National Seashore destroyed.

If you've ever wondered how fast the Peregrine falcons go when diving 746 feet from the hover zone high atop the Golden Gate Bridge north tower to the water below before shooting back up with the tailwind driving through the maritime gate between San Francisco and the mountainous Marin Headland, I've never clocked them, but the top recorded speed of a Peregrine is 242 mph.
