Since China stopped taking our plastic waste, 90% ends up in landfills. Plastic production worldwide amounts to 400 million tons annually. Microplastics, which contain toxic chemicals, are now detected in municipal drinking water and in human cells. 

Banning all non-recyclable plastic is one option, but it will face opposition from the plastics industry.

End Prohibition

The thriving illegal cannabis industry is a result of federal prohibition, high state taxes on legal cannabis, and limited access to licensed cannabis stores. This illegal market has driven down wholesale prices so much that legal cultivators are often forced to sell in both the black and white markets in order to survive.
